“Never would I have described myself as unhappy. Neither would any of my friends. I have always, for as long as I remember, been described as the girl who is always smiling. And to be fair, I have never had a reason not to be smiling. I had an amazing job in a fantastic location, a secure relationship and a number of friends to socialise with. And yet when I look back now, I think I knew even then that something was missing.
My initial goal with Heidi was to lose weight. I contacted her because I knew she was fit and healthy and positive. Something I aspired to be. Apparently losing weight wasn’t as simple as I thought. Heidi explained to me that happiness comes from within first, and then we can see changes on the outside. After completing a basic ‘analysis’ of my life, where I rated myself low on spirituality and creativity (things I had never even considered important to my daily lifestyle), I began to seek ways to make my life more ‘rounded’. Unfortunately, life sometimes gets in the way of your plans, and I spent time dealing with a difficult break up before these previously neglected areas of my life were faced. Unfortunately, we all must face pain at some point in our delicate lives, I’ve realised however, the most important thing to focus on is how to pick yourself up and carry on. Try not to let negativity in any form enter your life, look for the light in all darkness.
I realised through my own pain, that I had never gave myself any attention, and it was time to start doing things in my life that made me happy, not what made everyone else around me happy. I began regular yoga classes, they calmed me, and I realised they were one of the very few places I could switch off the outside world. Not long after I realised I was quite good at it, and decided to create some goals centred around yoga. My starting point, to practice yoga in as many countries as I could travel to.
After some time, with an incredible amount of help from Heidi, I developed the idea to create yoga inspired jewellery. I love fashion and accessories and it made perfect sense to begin developing my own creations to spread the love to others. Had it not been for Heidi, my accomplishments may have never left the ground. She reminded me that we need to make time to progress, and so began my slow but worthwhile journey to reaching my goals. By setting aside every Thursday afternoon, I was able to create something I am very proud of. My life as it now stands. I have a website where my yoga and travel themed jewellery sells all over the world and where I am able to display a blog detailing my adventures and travels. I named my creation ‘Happy Yogi Face,’ a constant reminder of my Dubai yoga teacher, who reminded us constantly through a series of asanas that the most important thing to do is maintain our happy faces, and by staying positive and strong through the pain, we are always able to create amazing things.
I have never been happier than I am now. Whilst I may have been happy before, due to facing different areas of my life to create a rounded lifestyle, I was able to see how incredible life can be. My initial goal ‘to lose weight’ is now overshadowed with more important things that allow me to live my life as I want to. I now want to travel the world, do new things every day and create designs to spread the word that life is good! And it would appear that I’m losing weight anyway, I am now physically and emotionally stronger than I ever have been before. Heidi was of course right, happiness comes from within.
