Inspiring Success Stories – Achieving an A* in Health & Wellness

6 May, 2016

Inspiring Success Stories come to you from the authentic voices of inspirational people I have coached during their health journey. These are the people that have looked fear, judgment, self-doubt and everyday struggles in the eye and have taken them on with wholehearted determination and now live a full and happy life.

“Health Coaching will change your life in way you never imagined, you will be more responsible, and you will learn to hold yourself accountable for your actions. Mrs Jones will not give you a temporary solution to changing your lifestyle, but rather a permanent one.”

This is Negin’s story…

“Before Mrs Jones (Heidi) was my health coach she was my design and technology (DT) teacher. I still remember her making me redo this one piece of drawing around 4 times just because it wasn’t perfect, she always pushed me to do my best. In DT we always learned to design products, which suit our target market, so I knew that Mrs. Jones was the perfect person to help me design a new, healthier lifestyle, which was specific to my body.

Before starting the programme, I hated to run, never ate any greens, barely cooked, didn’t know much about other diets such as paleo or vegan, and to be honest I never really cared about my healthy in general. I didn’t care, because I didn’t understand the importance of taking care of our body. What I loved most about Mrs. Jones was that she always explained everything, she didn’t just say ok here’s some kale go and eat it, she gave us logical reasons behind why our body needs greens.

The goals that I achieved:

  • Physical changes- I lost 5kg, and my fat percentage fell by around 8%.
  • Exercise- I ran 1.5km on sports day at my school! I used to hate the P.E teachers at our school when they used to force us to run the 1.5k during our P.E lessons. But, now I run because I enjoy it, not because it’s a chore.
  • Cooking- I had some basic cooking lesson with Mrs. Jones (e.g. cooking chicken, and quinoa) and it just motivated me to cook other meals. Now I can cook a variety of dishes, and not just the typical healthy recipes like salads, granola or smoothies, but also burgers, brownies, fried chicken, molten lava cake, French toast, and even homemade Reese’s cups! My favourite part about Mrs. Jones’ healthy coaching was that she never told me to remove anything from my diet she just told me to find a healthier substitute. For instance, when making brownies, I use almond flour instead of white flour, I use maple syrup instead of sugar, and I use raw cacao powder instead of coca powder (and yes there’s a difference).

  • Mindfulness- so this wasn’t really my goal in the beginning, I mainly wanted Mrs Jones to help me with my physical wellbeing and didn’t realise that my mental health was as important. Mrs Jones told me to do ‘mindfulness’ activities, and by that she didn’t necessarily mean meditating or doing yoga, but even simple activities such as colouring a book, baking or even taking a bath. This helped me reduce my stress levels, as it helped me forgot about my schoolwork and only focus on that specific activity.

What I will always remember from this programme is that you crave what you eat. I remember Mrs. Jones telling me on the first day that she craves kale because she eats it regularly, I found that really weird and to be honest I still do…However, I do agree with what she said, maybe not kale for me, but I do crave coconut water and dark chocolate. My friends are especially surprised that I love coconut water so much now, because whenever we went out to eat and they ordered a Pina colada, I used to start ranting about coconuts.

I highly recommend Mrs Jones as a health coach, especially for 17-18 year old students who are planning to go to university abroad. Mrs Jones will change your life in way you never imagined, you will be more responsible, and you will learn to hold yourself accountable for your actions. Mrs Jones will not give you a temporary solution to changing your lifestyle, but rather a permanent one.”
