Keep On Track – Even When Life Gets Tough

9 August, 2017

When times gets stressful or when life gets overwhelming, sometimes just thinking about self-care can feel like too much to deal with – to be honest, its sometimes the last thing we even think about when we need it most.

When a lifestyle change is made, it’s actually easy to keep it up when life is running smoothly, but life doesn’t run that way, not in the long term anyway. We all have times when life gets tough and we have to deal with difficult emotions. We could even argue that ‘lifestyle change’ isn’t fully achieved until we have actually gone through the tough times and got through it without reverting back to old unhealthy habits…

Lifestyle change is not about making a change once and expecting that it’s the solution to all your problems, its learning that making a change is about continuously making a conscious choice to keep moving forward as much as possible and understanding there will be bumps and even setbacks along the way.

Perhaps this is when we can really test if positive mind-set shifts have really been made?

To be resilient, we are aware of our behaviour and the choice we have in each situation, no matter how challenging it is.

A key action is to create a self-care plan. We all know how preparation is essential for success – maintaining positive lifestyle change is the same, the more prepared we are the more likely we will be able to manage and stay on track when life gets tough.

Create your self-care plan by filling in the SC points below to help make your life feel more manageable (and on the right track) when life is not going as planned: SCA = Self-care action
