When it comes to WLB there is always going to be a When it comes to WLB there is always going to be a spill over…

We aim to close the laptop at 5pm but end up checking in on emails on our phone after dinner.

We plan to go to the gym in the morning but are far too tired from the previous work day to get out of bed before it’s light.

We say we’re going to not have a glass of wine this week, but have one midweek to take the edge off a stressful day.

Spill over will happen, it’s normal, no-one is going to get it right all of the time.

➡️What to look out for is when spill over becomes part of your routine, a new habit or way of working.

Consider this:

➡️Is a boundary being crossed? or a new one being set?
➡️Have your priorities changed?
➡️Do you need a new approach to manage your WLB?

Climate change
Diversity
The economy
Education for all
Caring for others
Health care

And this is just the start of it.

We all want to help, to do our ‘bit’, to be there for others BUT to be able to do this - and for the long-term - you need to also add YOU to the list of things that are important.

It’s like what the cabin crew tell us on a flight, put your own mask on first before helping others.

YOU ARE IMPORTANT.

I want things to go to plan and for everything to I want things to go to plan and for everything to be OK - all the time 🤯

I am very aware that this is a ridiculously high and unachievable expectation I have on myself.

➡️I have to write down my goals and break them into plans and milestones.

➡️I have to know what my plan is for the week ahead.

➡️I have to know what could go wrong so I can make a plan to recover from it.

I do these three things to manage my expectations. It helps calm my inner-critic, stop the unnecessary worrying and helps me regain perspective in the many roles I play in my life.

No one has it all together all of the time, but there is a lot to be said about deepening our sense of self, acceptance and personal responsibility.
