Your week always starts off so well – you re-read your goals, prepare healthy food for work and schedule in your fitness sessions, but for some reason, every week, you start to loose your motivation. The buzz you started the week with is slowly fading away and that one thing that always happens (there is always one thing a week that makes you either; work late/ forget to pack your lunch/ stuck in traffic and miss your fitness class…) and you start to hear the words “why do I bother? is it really worth it?”.
YES it is!
The secret is to check in with your surroundings and suss out what is sucking the living ‘energy’ out of you.
Have you ever been in a room and someone walks in and you can just feel the energy they are giving out (positive or negative)? Have you ever had a conversation with a friend and left feeling absolutely drained? How about sitting in traffic and feeling frustrated because there is nothing to listen to on the radio? Or watching the TV and feeling depressed or angry after listening to the news?
The environment you surround yourself with can play a huge part to keeping (or losing) your motivation.
“When you let go, you create space for better things to enter into your life.”
To be able to live out your goals (this could be your new healthy lifestyle, fitness regime, career path…) you need to create the space in your life for it take place. It is important to look at what surroundings and environments you currently find yourself in and identify those that no longer support you in moving forward with your life.
This can be difficult at first, especially when change is involved. You may feel uncomfortable to start with, but remember, change which is worth making is never really going to be easy. Start with the small stuff and then work your way onto the bigger ‘motivational drainers’, this could be your home, social hang outs or even some of your friends!
Make space for your new life, create an environment around you that inspires you.
Need some help on figuring out what needs to go from your environment/life? Read, The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck by Sarah Knight. It is a straight to the point (No f***s) guide on how to stop spending time you don’t have, with you people you don’t like, doing things you don’t want to do.
To get you started I challenge you to write out the small things you do not give a (f**k) about, you can download a worksheet here: THINGS-I-MAY-OR-MAY-NOT-GIVE-A-F.pdf
Fill your environment with things/places and people to support you with your goals and remove what doesn’t. Start with small steps, first work out what it is in your surrounding environment that drains you of your energy (and in return your motivation), remove or replace one thing at a time and see how you feel.
Health coaching supports you to take small steps and make lifestyle choices to support your goals and live a healthier and happier life. If you would like to know more, please get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
