The small things that make a big impact to our success

22 March, 2021

Too often we focus on the big things; completing a project, meeting a deadline, losing 5kg or restarting in a new career that we forget the value and impact the small things in our day-to-day life make in working towards achieving and succeeding.

When we stop or skip on the small things over time we start to feel the impact; low energy, lack of focus, indecisiveness, overwhelm, no motivation, negative self-talk, low mood and loss of confidence.

Use the wellbeing essentials list below as a self check-in.

Score yourself for each category out of 5 (5 being ‘couldn’t be better’, 0 being ‘I’ve completely let this go’).

Drinking 8 glasses of water a day     /5

Eating 3 meals a day     /5

Eating fruit and vegetables every day     /5

Drinking 1-2 cups of coffee/tea a day     /5

Conscious moving for at least 30 minutes a day     /5

Resting by yourself for a least 10 minutes a day     /5

Going to the toilet when you need it every day     /5

Clean, tidy environment (think your car, where you sleep, work)     /5

Getting 6-8 hours of sleep each day (unless you’re a new mum – do your best!)     /5

Spending within your means     /5

Doing something for fun each week     /5

Having a meaningful conversation each week     /5

Spending dedicated time outside each week     /5

Giving back or supporting your community     /5

Don’t panic if you have some low scores – every moment is a new moment to make a new decision and do something different. Remember this is about the small things, start with one small step you can to start increasing your scores.
